[Bug 500424] Eclipse Downloads circles doesn't display properly on Windows Edge

added Bugzilla legacy ~21670 labels

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

We recieved an email from Roman Yakubov concerning the Downloads page:

Good afternoon colleagues. My name is Roman Yakubov. I found an error on the
page of the site at http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/. I do not know where
to redirect it. You've been very helpful if the crossing is a letter to the
right people. Screen shot of the error in the attachment. Sorry for
interrupting.

He is using the browser Microsoft Edge to view the page.

I'm suspecting that this browser doesn't like some of the CSS that creates
the circles on the Downloads page.

This will need some investigating and fixing.

An attachment has been added to show the error.

I don't find those circle very user friendly. Users must rollover each block for the learn more links.

We should consider removing the circle and include the learn more links in the body of text without requiring any action from the user.

I agree, it would be much more user friendly if we were to remove the circles entirely. The only piece of content in the circles that is not already on the page are the "Get It" and learn more links. Those could easily fit right under each project's descriptions.

I created a patch to remove the hover circles from the Downloads page and simply display the links on the page.

Here is an example on staging:

I don't mind removing the circles but I don't like that the "Get It" buttons are not aligned.

Here is a screenshot of all the blocks aligned vertically.

I like this option as well but now that the logos are not aligned anymore, they are not on the same level and Eclipse Glassfish seems a lot more prominent then the others.

I agree, I think it would make all of the blocks look a lot more consistent.
