New Splash Screen for Eclipse IDE releases in 2023

Hello, Hopefully this is the right location to make this request.

We need to design a new splash screen for Eclipse 4.28+ releases.

Here are the requirements

Requirement 1: Splash screen Size : 452x302 Format: XCF (gimp format)

should have month/year and release name in separate text layers, so that it can be modified for update releases. Or multiple BMP format splash screens with 2023-06, 2023-09, 2023-12 and 2024-03 dates

Requirement 2: branding image in about dialog current image: https://github.com/eclipse-platform/eclipse.platform/blob/master/platform/org.eclipse.sdk/eclipse_lg.png

size: 116x302 format: png

Unfortunately I was late making this issue so it's already late in the year but it would be nice to have new splash screens by January/early February 2023 so the voting can happen in March as usual.

Hi @slakkimsetti. Thank you for your patience with this. This is still in our backlog as we've had a high volume of requests lately. We are actually onboarding a second graphic designer to help with the workload. We should have a draft for you this month.

"A" and "B" looks good, I would prefer "B", is a bit cleaner, has lot of "sunshine" energy and fits to the sommer release time :-)

Yes, I believe it's usually the requestor or a project lead that shares the issue with the mailing list for additional feedback.

D>A>B>C - my eye is most drawn to D as I like the honeycomb look, A fits in with the traditional outer space themes in Eclipse IDE.

Before sharing preferences, I'd like to congratulate the authors of those proposals, all are pretty good and whichever is chosen would be good for the IDE!

I like A best as it gives a sense of entropy and movement, and thus creativity and more generally of targeting the future. My second favorite would be B which gives me an impression of warmth and power.

As Mickeal mentioned, all options look amazing IMO and would all be lovely to look at when opening Eclipse

My personal preferences are: D>B>C>A

I think we agree that all are great. To save designer work (and a bit of money), why not use them all? They have a similar color scheme, but some are warmer, others are colder. So maybe C for March, B for June, D for September and A for December? I think it would work if your reference is the northern hemisphere at least.

The "Eclipse IDE" is for downloads from https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/ put together by the EPP. "Eclipse" is for downloads made by the Eclipse Project available here https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/

Thanks @jograham for the clarification. Yes the eclipse platform project uses splash screen without "IDE".

It would be great to have the splash screens in higher resolution to use them in articles about the releases. For example, on heise.de, the image used to display a news item must be at least 1280x720 pixels (for the last version I scaled up the splash screen, which took me some time and didn't look that great: see e.g. here).
