Issue with open-vsx.org

Summary

When I login using my eclipse, I receive the following message: Your Eclipse profile is missing a GitHub username. Please fill in the “GitHub Username” field in your Eclipse account and try again.

While I already linked my github profile, and it shows my github user name when I edit my profile. Also I Re-executed ECA.

Steps to reproduce

• Create eclipse profile
• Sign ECA
• Edit profile
• Link your github acccount
• Login to https://open-vsx.org/
• Go to Settings: https://open-vsx.org/user-settings/profile
• Click Log in with Eclipse
• Login and authorize the login
• I see the error: Your Eclipse profile is missing a GitHub username.Please fill in the “GitHub Username” field in your Eclipse account and try again.

What is the current bug behavior?

My github username is not reflected in open-vsx

To accept the login, so I can publish my vs extension

It looks like this account had a few updates in a short period 30m before this issue was created. Did you add the GitHub account binding today, and if so, was there a time period between adding the GitHub account binding and attempting to publish the OpenVSX extension? We have a 15 minute cache on user accounts to help with load, so if you attempted to login, updated your account, and tried again in a short period of time, there's a chance that the service saw a cached version of your account.

Hi, it works now, but within the first 30 minutes ( roughly ), it was not working.

That tracks with our cache timings! I'm glad to hear that it resolved itself in this case. I'm going to close the issue since this was a cache issue, and we have some plans in motion already to improve how we cache this data. Thanks for the issue!

Hi, this issue keep being raised in the Open-VSX support board, as can be seen here:

It may be helpful to further investigate this issue, so users better understand the necessary waiting period or steps to resolve the issue

@malowe - I think the accounts website needs a way to inform your service that a user entity was updated and to revoke its cache so that users don't need to wait 30 minutes before they can publish an extension.

I've made 2 patches to get this started, the first being in the Profile API to allow for cache busting by external services on update (see eclipsefdn/it/api/eclipsefdn-profile-api!121 (merged)). The second update is to the EF Java SDK to allow us to bypass the cache for given types (see eclipsefdn/it/api/eclipsefdn-api-common!260 (merged)).

For best UX, we will need further updates to the OpenVSX API as well as the accounts site to call this endpoint, but this should form the foundation for both of those updates.
