Implement an OpenChain compliance badge for Eclipse projects
The basic idea is to provide an indication that individual Eclipse open source projects are OpenChain compliant. For example, compliance may be visually indicated on the project's PMI page using an OpenChain logo and (perhaps) as a GitHub-style badge.
The OpenChain website has compliance badges for each version (e.g., version 1.2).
The basic plan:
- Re-certify EF on OpenChain 2.1;
- Author a web page (or whatever) that describes with some specificity the basis of our claim of compliance (e.g., the specification requires that we identify and document roles and responsibilities; we have all of this information, just not all in one place);
- Update our Progress/Release review process to identify and fill in any gaps with regard to Eclipse open source project compliance with EF IP Policy and IP Due Diligence process (I'm pretty sure that there are no gaps, but let's be sure);
Successful completion of a Progress/Release review is therefore an acknowledgement of OpenChain compliance (we already believe that this is true, minor gaps notwithstanding) for the year following the successful review (we’ve started using the term “good standing” to refer to projects in this state). We’ll update the PMI to reflect this.
We will consider setting up an OpenChain GitHub badge based on the “good standing” state of the project (e.g., ). We should work with our OpenChain friends to ensure that we're not stepping on any toes before we deploy anything like this.
