Address multiple lint errors

Hi @silabs-hfegran, this is a big PR in terms of files, but technically a bit of a softball. All changes are one of three categories:

1. Fixing lint errors as reported by Verissimo.
2. Removal of unnecessary white-space (continuing an on-going effort started by Steve).
3. Update to the Coding Style guidelines as per the discussion in #926.
