[Bug 549581] Roll out support for eclipse+mpc:// uri scheme on the Marketplace website

Bugzilla Link 549581
Status NEW
Importance P3 normal
Reported Jul 25, 2019 15:42 EDT

Depends on 536589

Description

Bug 536589 introduced support for an OS-level URI handler using the eclipse+mpc:// uri scheme to trigger MPC installations. Clicking an eclipse+mpc:// link with the handler registered in the OS will trigger an installation in MPC, just like dropping an URL onto Eclipse currently does.

Basic support for the scheme is in the latest MPC builds and will be rolled out with 2019-09 M2. Once remaining issues (in particular bugs 549579 and 549580) are solved and a production-ready version has been released, we should support this scheme on the Marketplace website in addition to or as replacement of the current drag&drop button.

We will need a good rollout strategy and a good workflow in the browser for detecting support of this scheme and/or dealing with a lack thereof.
