Visual refresh of the projects page
Created by: fdesbiens
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. The Eclipse IoT community told us that the current version of the projects page of iot.eclipse.org could be improved, both visually and functionally.
At the visual level, site visitors mentioned they felt the current layout is too busy and makes it difficult to find what they need.
At the functional level, site visitors stated that they would like the following:
- A visual way to figure out how the various components fit together. This will probably be some sort of diagram.
- Better categories. The categories used currently in the project page do not describe what to expect. Why would a developer need an ontology, for example?
- Clear indicators of project activity and healthiness. Downloads and the version number of the latest release do not cut it. But what to use? Number of commits in the last six months? Number of committers?
- When reading about a specific component, suggestions of other components to use with it. This is a bit like "People often buy those products together" on an e-commerce website.
Describe the solution you'd like We need to design and implement a new version of the project page addressing the requirements highlighted above.
Process
- Build and validate a wireframe of the new design
- Define the categories and project metrics we wish to feature and a way to fetch them at the technical level
- Iterate on the implementation
Steps #1 and #2 can probably be performed in parallel.
