EAA Compliance Review and Implementation
Objective: Ensure eclipse.org and associated digital properties are aligned with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and relevant accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.1 AA, EN 301 549), even if not strictly mandated. This proactive approach supports inclusive access, improves user experience, and mitigates future legal or reputational risks.
Scope:

Audit existing public-facing pages, with particular focus on: Header and Footer (new) Main menu (new) Homepage (new) Working group and project pages Download portals Blog and event pages

Identify accessibility gaps and propose remediations

Implement fixes and establish a process for ongoing compliance
Requirements: Audit:
- Use automated tools (e.g. Axe, Lighthouse, WAVE, Siteimprove)
- Conduct manual spot checks for keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, contrast, and focus indicators
- Document known issues with severity level and affected pages
Tools:
- Evaluate current tooling for accessibility support (e.g. CMS themes, templates, markdown renderers)
- Recommend improved or new tools if needed
- Identify plugins/extensions that help with accessibility in development workflows
Implementation Plan:
- Prioritize remediations by impact/severity
- Implement template and style updates (fonts, colors, ARIA attributes)
- Address navigation, focus, and contrast issues
- Add accessibility statement and contact mechanism for user feedback
Ongoing Governance:
- Propose accessibility checklist for future updates
- Embed accessibility into QA processes and design reviews
Deliverables:
- Audit report (PDF or shared doc)
- List of prioritized issues
- Remediation plan with timelines
- Updated components/templates
- Accessibility statement
Acceptance Criteria:
- All high-severity issues are resolved
- Key templates meet WCAG 2.1 AA
- Statement and feedback loop published
