Sanitize lingering backslashes in ECA pre hook used in GL

Reported in eclipsefdn/helpdesk#4114 (closed), there is an issue where some \ characters can be left in the commit messages which breaks the push to the API. The reason for the break is that JSON doesn't strictly support hanging escape characters, and the validation request won't be rendered and will immediately fail.
