New download statistics system incoming for Project files

In the near future, the Eclipse Foundation plans to do an update on how users interact with Download Stats in relation to the Eclipse Foundation platform! Presently, we are in the process of replacing the current stats viewer interface with a Project Release-driven file tracking system.

This system will make use of the current Project Release provided in the Project Management Interface, providing a new set of fields for associated files within project releases, as well as a checkbox to allow for releases to be marked as “tracked”. Currently, nearly all projects will be subject to a limit of 6 tracked releases per project, with up to 10 files set per release, tracked or not. Once the limit of 6 tracked releases is reached, older releases will need to have their tracking disabled to allow for new releases to be tracked.

Currently, there is one planned exception to the above file limitation, which is the Eclipse Packaging Project, which is the project responsible for the release of the Eclipse IDE. This project will have higher limits to facilitate the release of the Eclipse IDE for multiple distributions and architecture combinations.

With the newly acquired stats, we will update the Project Releases for them to have 3 new graphs available. These graphs will indicate the release’s total downloads per country, total downloads per file, and total downloads over the last 6 months.
