Releasing parts of the project with different cadence/versions

We are about to plan a very first release of the Eclipse LMOS project.

The project has multiple repositories and we generally categorize them in two distinct parts: "Arc" and "LMOS Platform" These two parts don't have any dependencies that would require them to be released together - rather contrary, they have their own development lifecycle and it makes sense to release them independently.

Our question to EMO is therefore: Is it possible to have independent releases and versioning of these two parts of the project? If so, how would we do this in the project page in PMI as this does not support such a concept? Would it be ok to use GitHub projects (as set up here) for release tracking and not do this in PMI at all?
