Eclipse AJDT Termination and AspectJ Restructuring reviews

The EMO is using this issue to track the progress of a project restructuring review.

Following discussion on migrating projects and to maintain the health of the Eclipse AspectJ community this restructuring review is to move the resources (git repos, etc) of the tools.ajdt project into the tools.aspectj project and terminate the tools.ajdt project. This will have the following advantages:

  • all the AJDT and AspectJ GitHub repos to live in the same GitHub organization
  • the committers won't be split in two (at the moment the committers of tools.aspectj and tools.ajdt are the same anyway)
  • a single release record covering all of AspectJ and AJDT components can be used
  • future merging or restructuring of git repositories across AspectJ and AJDT can be done if desired
  • bring AspectJ more in alignment with structure of similar projects such as Eclipse JDT
