This way should we need to add +1 element to the enumeration the static analyzers will point out all the location where it might need to be used.

As it can have only 2 values (0/1) it should be consistently used as an integer.
But later it sohuld be checked if an enum with specific name values would be a better choice.

the get_next_token function should return size_t (unsigned value) ... and this also revealed some incorrect error handling in some parts of the code.
